Sixth Form Languages

Congratulations to Lower Sixth student Isobel Horsfall who was runner up in the Prestigious Annual Oxford German Olympiad ‘Deutsch(e) jenseits von Deutschland’. The competition is a great way for young people nationally to try something new at the same time as furthering their knowledge of German language and culture.

Isobel was surprised by the outcome and commented: “it was a great honour to go to Oxford to collect my prize. At the ceremony, I enjoyed speaking to other like-minded German learning teenagers, and learning more about the Modern Languages Faculty of the University. When asked to write for the German Network blog I was thrilled, as I had admired the blog for some time. It gave me a chance to reflect on the experience, which had been so rewarding in the first place. I am very grateful to the Oxford German Network for organising both the blog and the Olympiad. I also strongly recommend any budding German learners to enter next year - I know I will be!”

Frau Lessig, Head of German commented: “Isobel is extremely dedicated and has a keen interest in German language and culture. Her subsequent blog is entertaining to read, showing how a love of a language can spark other interests and open the world. It should encourage girls at BGS and students in general, to continue studying German and to show off their skills outside of school and in the real world.”
