It was a pleasure to watch our Lower Sixth Drama students bring their Component 2 Text in Performance assessment to life last week. Their creativity and commitment were clear in every performance, both on stage and behind the scenes.
Lauren, Lily-Amber and Melisa gave a beautifully nuanced performance in The Memory of Water, capturing both the humour and poignancy of Shelagh Stephenson’s play. Polly’s costume designs added a lovely layer of authenticity. Lily-Amber and Lauren also brought a great mix of humour, energy, and emotional depth to their duologue from Like A Virgin, enhanced by Polly’s set design.
Grace delivered a powerful monologue from Cressida Among The Greeks, portraying her character’s strength and vulnerability with real intensity, while Ella’s thoughtful costume design supported the performance. Melisa expertly navigated the dark humour of Laughing Wild, showing both confidence and precision.
Lily and Erin gave a gripping performance of Mosquitoes, capturing the tension and complexity of their characters. In All The Little Lights, Lily, Erin and Grace worked together to create a powerful group performance, with Ella’s lighting design adding to the drama.
Each student demonstrated a deep understanding of their chosen texts, showcasing both professionalism and creativity throughout. They've set a high standard, and I'm sure they will continue to excel in their future creative pursuits.
Erin said: “It was a lot easier than devising and I realise that the skills I've developed over the course have been applied subconsciously, like time management and resilience.”
Grace added: “It was great, and I had a fantastic time collaborating with my peers on our final practical assessment. My best memory will be from the rehearsal process; it was a lot of fun!”
Lauren commented: “As a last performance at BGS it felt special, and it was a good way to end my time at school; doing the thing I love.”
