At the beginning of the Spring Term, Lower Sixth students were introduced to the Campaign Challenge. Students work in small groups, each selecting a cause they are passionate about. Passionate brainstorming led to the selection of a diverse range of topics, covering issues from food insecurity to the impact of shrinking attention spans.
Last year’s students demonstrated their concern for the world, tackling topics such as children in care, the gender pay gap in professional sport, environmental issues and the unethical involvement of big business in global conflicts. Their campaigns included visual displays around the school, social media content, pop-up events, competitions, quizzes, form-time activities, a Bring-a-Can collection for Bedford Food Bank, and even a flash-mob pantomime in the lunch hall.
The Campaign Challenge encourages students to work collaboratively and creatively while learning about global issues and methods of raising awareness. It provides an opportunity to communicate perspectives on important topics and engage the school community in meaningful conversations.
By undertaking research to assess existing knowledge within the student body, groups can shape their approach to maximise impact. This project not only strengthens teamwork and communication skills but also empowers students to make a real difference.
We look forward to the Lower Sixth students sharing their campaigns across the school over three weeks after half term. I’m sure they’ll get everybody thinking and talking!
