Arti Katechia (Lower Sixth)

During the February half term, students from Years 11 to Upper Sixth had the exciting opportunity to visit the vibrant city of Madrid. We stayed in Alcalá de Henares, which is a UNESCO world heritage site where we experienced a strong sense of spanish culture.

We visited the main Spanish national art museum ‘El Prado’ where A Level students got to see the world famous painting Las Meninas by Velázquez which they had been studying in class. Later that day we visited the Plaza Mayor, the Fountain of Neptune and we were given free time in the Puerta del Sol. We walked through the world famous streets of Madrid to see the vertical garden, which was absolutely mesmerising.

At the market of San Miguel, as well as a chance to practise our Spanish, we were immersed in the incredible culture of the country, which is equally as important as the linguistic side of learning a language.

The following day we visited the exquisite Royal Palace and the Museo Nacional Centro de arte Reina Sofía, as well as the cultural centre from which we were able to see breath-taking views of Madrid.

Overall, it was a wonderful trip that gave me the opportunity to bond with other year groups and practise my Spanish with the locals. A huge thank you to Señora Gómez and Señorita Stuart for making this such a memorable trip.
