Mr Wells (Director of Rowing)

On Wednesday evening, the Rowing Club hosted a club night, providing a great opportunity for the full squad of the rowers from Years 9 to Upper Sixth to show off their sport to their parents.

The evening highlighted to the parents how much the girls enjoy their sport, with the senior athletes taking a leading role in encouraging and mentoring the next generation of BGS rowers. We were also lucky enough to have Tom Kay from Five57 sports kit on hand to explain the importance of good quality and innovative clothing for the girls, and parents were able to talk to him about the kit before ordering specialist items

The evening combined information with fun, and the rowing coaches ran an Olympic orientated quiz. Mixing parents and girls of different age groups together in teams named after Olympic rowers they were then confronted by fast paced rounds which tested everyone’s knowledge of Olympic sports and rowing. This created plenty of discussion and laughter, hopefully building links across the parent rowing community ahead of a busy rowing season
