Before the half term break, over 100 Years 6 to Upper Sixth students participated in the annual House ergo competition (Friday 9th February).
Before the event started, the areas of battle were marked out in their House colours. Headbands and House t-shirts seemed to be in vogue for the 2019 championships. The Assembly Hall was filled to the rafters with supportive friends and staff as members of each house took turns on the indoor rowing machines.
The six school Houses competed against each other with members of their houses jumping on to try and increase their team’s score. With each team only having one machine, it was a case of changing around as much as possible. The quicker the change the less time wasted but the longer you stayed on the machine the lower the intensity.
Three trophies were up for grabs; distance, participants and spirit. It was a great opportunity for the rowers of each House to show leadership and encouragement to the non-rowers in the school. For the whole duration of the race (20 mins) the energy and noise didn’t diminish at all and it was fairly obvious to the whole school what was going on.
It was fantastic to see all of the girls unite in their House communities, regardless of age, or rowing ability, they were one team with one goal.
