Our students and alumnae have enjoyed some incredible sporting moments during the summer. Here are some highlights:

We are so very proud of BGS alumna, Revee Walcott-Nolan (2013), who ran a personal best (4:06.23) in her 1500m heat today at the Olympic Games in Tokyo. Representing Team GB and competing against the very best athletes globally, Revee left everything out on the track and narrowly missed out on a semi-final spot. To reach the Olympics is such an incredible achievement, what an inspiration and an amazing role model to all our students and the wider BGS community.

Closer to home, the Bedford Ladies Hockey Over 35s and alumnae (including our Director of Sport, Mrs Mason-McLeod), became England Hockey National Champions after a 2-1 win against Taunton Vale. Congratulations to the following alumnae - Kate Costin (BHS 2003), SJ McDonald (née Darrington, BHS 2003), Hannah Shanahan (née Shires, DAHS 2001), Mrs Mason-McLeod (née Mason, BHS 2004), Katherine Winger (née Wood, DAHS 1996) and Natalia Norford-Reynolds (née Norford, BHS 2001).

Junior School swimmer, Megan Barnicoat (Year 6), claimed a gold medal in the 100m fly (10-year-old age group) at the Swim England East Region Future Champions. Competing for Modernian Swimming Club, Megan qualified for an impressive eight events and achieved personal bests in all five of the races she entered.

Equestrians, Emily Dunning (BGS alumna 2021) and Ellie Mullan (Year 10), put in incredible performances at the Eventing International U18 Youth Championships in July. Such an incredible achievement to reach this level, we are extremely proud of you both.

During late August, Violet Whitaker (Year 6) and her pony Precious attended the NSEA Championships at the All England Showground at Hickstead to represent BGS in the National Dressage Individual Preliminary Championships. In a very competitive class, Violet and Precious did brilliantly to be placed 5th nationally. Violet reflected: “I was really proud that Precious and I were able to represent BGS at Hickstead. We rode an amazing test and I came out of the arena with a huge smile on my face. The atmosphere at Hickstead was fantastic and we made memories that I will never forget.”

Alpine skier, Holly Tutt (Year 10), continued her success on the slopes in both the slalom and extended slalom events. Holly competed in two ERSA races at The Snow Centre, Hemel Hempstead and Snozone, MK and placed 1st U16 in both the slalom and extended slalom (short length indoor giant slalom) on both days. She also placed 2nd overall ladies in all four events. Following these competitions, she placed 2nd at the Angle-Welsh Championships.

Hockey players, Natasha Miller and Megan Howlett (Year 11), claimed the England Hockey Futures Cup 2021 Squad trophy with the U15 Saxon Tigers. They have now been invited to U16 Age Selection Group. The group will face more observation and assessment activities, working toward a place in the final England U16 training squad to be announced later this year.

Finally, Roisin Scanlon (Year 9) had a busy summer with many successes culminating in representing England schools in their match against Wales, where she won both her doubles and singles matches. You can view her golfing progress and achievements here
