Our incredible BGS alumnae continue to shine on the UK and international stage!
Sprint hurdler Etienne Maughan (BGS 2023) claimed a silver medal in the 60m hurdles at the British Universities & Colleges Sport (BUCS) event in Sheffield. Her impressive form continued at the UK Athletics Indoor Championships in Birmingham, where she clocked a season’s best of 8.47 seconds in the semi-finals and 8.39 seconds in the final this past weekend. Closing her indoor season ranked 9th overall in the country across all age groups, Etienne is now gearing up for warm-weather training in Portugal as she prepares for her outdoor season.
Currently studying English Literature and History at Newcastle University, Etienne has enjoyed another remarkable 2024 in the world of 100m hurdles. Her achievements include victories at the British University Championships and the Loughborough International, where she broke her own record, as well as a Silver medal at the U23 England Athletics Championships.
Meanwhile, Kate Axford (BGS 2017), who secured a Team GB silver medal at the European Cross Country Championships in December 2024, has just signed with adidas Running! This exciting partnership means she’ll continue her journey as a full-time athlete with the support of one of the world’s leading sports brands. Younger sibling, Maddie Axford (2021), earned her first cap for the England Women’s Senior Hockey squad and competed in the FIH Hockey Pro League in India over half-term. For those of you who watched the match on TV, you may have noticed the BGS name check – a proud moment for the school!
Cyclist Sophie Lewis (2020) won a bronze medal for Team GB in the Women’s Team Pursuit at the 2025 UEC Track Elite European Championships in Zolder, Belgium.
Finally, two-time Olympian Revée Walcott-Nolan (2013) claimed a silver medal in the 1500m at the recent UK Athletics Indoor Championships in Birmingham. She has now secured a place in next month’s European Indoor Championships, adding yet another achievement to her remarkable career.
These achievements highlight the talent and hard work of our alumnae. We’re proud to see them excelling and inspiring others, and we look forward to following their future successes. Well done to all!
