Sophie Parry (Year 11)
During the first week of half term (Sunday 15th – Friday 20th October 2017), 34 Girls studying French from Years 9 to 11 visited Tours in the Loire Valley.
Each girl stayed with a French host family, which enabled us to eat, sleep and breathe the French language and culture. At the beginning of each day, we had a four-hour French lesson, we then took part in various cultural activities including a patisserie class, visiting Leonardo De Vinci's house and sampling delights in a biscuiterie. We also visited Futurscope, which is a theme park full of virtual reality rides.
After four days of fun activities, we started our 13-hour journey home and watched every Harry Potter... In French! A big thank you to the teachers and French host families that organised this fantastic trip.
Mr Hertout, Modern Foreign Languages Teacher, adds: “The trip was a great success. The girls experienced at first hand the French lifestyle thanks to the warm welcome of their host families and were able to find out more about the local area and French culture in their daily lessons. All the families and teachers commented on their open-minded approach and the curiosity that they showed to make the best of their stay.”
