Trips and Excursions

Gabriela Woodroffe-Gomez (Year 7)

On Friday 8th December, after a very early start, we set off for Stanstead Airport to catch our flight to Cologne in Germany to visit its famous Christmas markets.

On arrival, we set our luggage aside and visited the Christmas markets in search of festive gifts. It was so difficult to choose from such a wide range of stalls. Next stop, we recharged our batteries with a boat trip on the river Rhein with cake and hot chocolate, just what we needed as it had started to snow.

The Schokoladen Museum/Lindt Factory was one of the visits everybody was looking forward to; we saw how Lindt Chocolate was made from the cocoa bean to its final packaging. On our second day, we used our German language skills in a different Christmas Market followed by a fragrance experience to find out about the original Eau de Cologne and the different ingredients that are found in perfume making. Who would have known that one of the ingredients is whale sick!

At the end of the day, we left for Düsseldorf airport. I really enjoyed the sky train that took us to the airport. We all had a fantastic time, thank you very much to Frau Arrowsmith for organising the trip and to Frau Lessig, Miss Nelson and Mrs Hoar for looking after us so well.
