Mr Mason-Mcleod (Head Hockey Coach)
BGS have enjoyed a great start to the hockey season, 23 different teams have represented the school. The girls have played 42 matches, won 25, drawn 5 and lost only 12. They have scored 87 goals in those 42 matches with approximately 244 hockey players representing both the Junior and Senior School.
The first team started their preseason in August with some fantastic performances at the Rugby School hockey tournament. This stood them in good stead for their Saturday fixtures, which resulted in a 12-0 victory over Stamford and a 5-5 all draw with a very strong Norwich team.
The second team, which is a mixture of Year 11 and Sixth form students, are finding their feet. After a tough game against Stamford, they then beat Bedford Modern School (BMS) 3-0 to become County Champions. The third team won their first game 1-0 against Norwich on Saturday.
The U15A’s were knocked out of the Independent School Cup, but showed great bouncebackability and won the Bedfordshire U16 Tier 3 tournament, beating BMS and Goldington. The U15B’s put in a fantastic performance against a Norwich U15A/B team and we look forward to a great season from them.
The U14A’s and U14B’s have moved up from 7 a side to 11 a side hockey this season. The A’s had two close games and are improving each match and the B’s have also had two close games, finishing with a 3-3 all draw with Norwich.
The U13’s have excelled across all their matches, putting in fantastic performances all round. Meanwhile, the U12’s move to a busier hockey fixture programme this year, improving upon every match.
In the Junior School, the girls have enjoyed a great start. The U11A’s placed second in the Witham tournament, resulting in being crowned Bedfordshire County Champions. The U11B’s and C’s are developing into good teams and the U10B/C’s beat Witham Hall 4-1.
