On Wednesday 13th November, BGS and Bedford School came together for the much-anticipated return of the collaborative Open Mic Night.
Hosted at Bedford School in support of Movember, the evening celebrated student talent and creativity, offering a wonderful opportunity for performers to take to the stage in a supportive environment.
BGS Upper Sixth students Lauren Blower, Ella Bowis, Kaila Hill, Melisa Rasool and Polly Taylor reflected on the experience:
“As Upper Sixth students, this was our final Open Mic Night with Bedford School. It was a fantastic opportunity to perform in front of our peers while supporting the Movember campaign. The event drew a large and enthusiastic audience, creating a welcoming and lively environment.
“The evening featured a variety of performances, from Ella’s rendition of Better People to Leave On Read to Polly’s moving performance of Someone New, and Melisa’s energetic take on Sir Duke. Later in the evening, the BGS Upper Sixth bands took to the stage: Astrophe performed Dark Red and What You Know, while Counteract delivered a spirited rendition of Should I Stay or Should I Go.
“Participating in events like this has given us the chance to meet new people and form new friendships, which have even led to the creation of the Upper Sixth band, Undecided, made up of students from both BGS and Bedford School.
“At the end of the evening, we were treated to an exciting preview of the Movember theme for 2024. Although we’re sad that this was our last Open Mic Night, we’re already looking forward to Rock Night in March, where we’ll be showcasing more of the songs we’ve been working on!”
