Sixth Form The Bridge Careers Service

The ever-popular Lunchbox Lectures will be returning next term with a series of insightful lectures about careers ranging from architecture to conservation.

Organised by The Bridge Careers Service, the programme sees a number of visiting speakers, ranging from alumnae to business professionals, passing on their pearls of wisdom to Senior and Sixth Form students during a weekly lunchtime session.

Ffion Lucas (Alumna 2017), Development Executive at Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, will be kicking off the series on Monday 24th February. Her session will be particularly useful for students who are currently unsure about their next steps after school: this was the case for Ffion, who will be talking about her career journey so far, reflecting on her choices at school, university and experience in business to show how they’ve led her to where she is now.

On Friday 6th March, we will be welcoming Dr Jo Gilbert, Deputy Director of Conservation Programmes at the RSPB. Jo will be talking about how she made her hobby into her career, as well as the programmes she is involved with, in the UK and globally, to restore and protect habitats for threatened species, locking up carbon and reducing floods. This session will show girls how they can build a career around doing what they love, and is also highly recommended to Science and Geography students, and those interested the environment, ecology, climate change and similar subjects at university.

Mrs Whitlock, Head of The Bridge Careers Service, said: “We want to do all we can to prepare the students for life after school, whether that would be further education or entering the working world. It is particularly valuable to have alumnae and external speakers share their professional journeys, widening the girls’ perspectives at a time when they are preparing to make significant choices of their own. BGS is lucky to be able to offer students Lunchbox Lectures covering such a broad range of skills, knowledge and experience, and we are very grateful to all our speakers. ”
