Last Friday afternoon (2nd February), our GCSE and A Level Art and Textiles students were delighted with a visit from award-winning Artist and Designer, Allistair Covell.
Allistair’s background is in fine art, fashion and textiles, with vibrant colours being an integral ingredient in his energetic paintings and hand-knotted woven rugs, which he refers to as ‘woven prints’.
In 2015, his work received royal recognition from HRH The Prince of Wales when his textile artwork, Digital Stitch was acquired by the National Wool Museum in Wales to become part of their permanent textile collection.
Armed with a vast amount of sketchbooks and colourful prints, Allistair gave an insight about his methods in printing and textiles from when he was student. The girls truly stepped into his world of colour. Upper Sixth student, Evie Caldwell adds: “Allistair engaged us all in his richly coloured sketchbooks, describing the thought processes and techniques he went through to produce his work. His vast experience and experimental nature of his work was inspiring to us.”
