Before the half term break, over 200 Years 6 to Upper Sixth students participated in the annual house ergo competition (Friday 9th February).
If it were possible to bottle energy, this would have been a time to do it. The assembly hall was full of noise and colour. Even before the event started, the areas of battle were marked out in their house colours. Headbands seemed to be in vogue for the 2018 championships.
The six school houses competed against each other with members of their houses jumping on to try and increase their team’s score. With each team only having one machine it was a case of changing around as much as possible. The quicker the change the less time wasted but the longer you stayed on the machine the lower the intensity.
Three trophies were up for grabs, distance, participants and spirit. It was a great opportunity for the rowers of each house to show leadership and encouragement for the none rowers in the school. For the whole duration of the race (20mins) the energy and noise didn’t diminish at all and it was fairly obvious to the whole school what was going on.
It was fantastic to see all of the girls unite in their house communities, regardless of age, rowing ability etc they were one team one goal. In BGS tradition each of the girls competing were constantly being encouraged and motivated by all the other girls in their house.
Thanks to all the house staff for volunteering their time to compete and make the event such as success for the girls.
As with every event there are winners and losers. The main thing is that we all learn from the experiences.
