Art & Textiles

Last Thursday, guests of the BGS and wider community were invited to our annual Art and Textiles exhibition, which showcased the enormous range of creative talents of our Years 9, GCSE and Sixth Form students.

All the guests were welcomed with drinks and a selection of delicious canapés before viewing the vast amounts of Art and Textiles creations beautifully displayed, from wonderful and elaborate dresses to sculptures and sketchbooks.

The Year 9 Food and Nutrition pupils hosted a Street Food Showcase event, where they demonstrated the skills they have learnt throughout the year; challenging themselves with some high-skill products. They designed and made a range of dishes influenced by street food culture across the world. The guests enjoyed talking to the pupils about what inspired their mouth-watering dishes.

Mrs Lugsden, Head of Art and Textiles, said: “It has been another full year in the Art and Textiles department, and the end of year Summer Show was an opportunity for all the hard work of the year to be pulled together.

The quality of work on display was as ever stunning, and every year we are so proud of the quality of work the girls produce, and the dedication of the Art and Textiles team. It was incredibly rewarding to see girls bringing their friends and families to see what they have produced, and the comments from visitors were delightful. All the girls and staff worked extremely hard and should be very proud. The show was a fitting end to another excellent year’s work in the Art and Textiles department.”
