We were delighted to be able to take Year 9 Art and Textiles students to the amazing Victoria and Albert (V&A) Museum on Monday this week, in support of their current creative projects.
Textiles Design students had a focus on exploring surface patterns, researching a range of artefacts from varying times and cultures to bring richness to their current work. A particular highlight for many was having the opportunity to see the famous knitted cardigan belonging to Harry Styles, a new acquisition to the V&A’s fashion collection.
Fine Art students were tasked with capturing, through photography and drawing, faces and portraits from a range of different genres, styles and cultures; from Buddhist artefacts to Mediaeval sculptures. It was a culturally rich and creative day, and we can’t wait to see the work students do in response to what they gathered at this fantastic museum.
Mariam Rashid (Year 9) said: “The trip to the V&A Museum was a lot of fun. I enjoyed learning about different cultures and how they depict their history through art. I would love to go back; it was very interesting, and I would advise next year's year 9 art students to take advantage of the opportunity; it's a great way to learn about other cultures and art in general.”
