We are proud of Rosie Dempsey (Year 8), who represented BGS at the British Shooting Schools Pistol Championships (East of England Final) on Friday 22nd November at Ipswich High School.
The championships required participants to complete a 10m air pistol shoot, adhering strictly to safety protocols and procedures for unboxing and loading pistols.
This is the third year Rosie has qualified for this event. The junior section saw a significant increase in entries this year, with 75 competitors, almost double last year’s total. Undeterred, Rosie demonstrated growth and maturity, confidently navigating the challenges of the larger field.
The competition format consisted of four targets shot at 10m, with five shots per target and a maximum score of 200. Rosie performed consistently, scoring 8s and 9s on her first three targets. A single rogue shot on her fourth and final target brought her total to 132 out of 200. This impressive score placed her 16th out of 75, securing her a spot within the top 20, a fantastic achievement.
Rosie also joined a Youth Team as the junior member, teaming up with two peers from Cambridge schools with whom she trains. Together, they achieved 7th place out of 25 teams, another commendable result.
Next year, Rosie will move up to the intermediate category and is determined to qualify among the top nine to reach the National Final.
