On Saturday 10th June, 50 BGS rowers competed on home water at Star Regatta. The regatta is a fantastic day, where all members of the Boat Club are able to come together to compete and enjoy rowing. With a very full programme of racing, BGS crews started out at 8.30am and our racing finished at 8.00pm – a fantastic day in the sunshine was had by all!
Our rowers certainly started the day determined to have a good one, and with back to back races throughout the morning BGS had only lost one race from over 20 rounds by 1.00pm. This saw progression to the final two, and a place in the final in 10 events. From these 10 finals, Team BGS converted seven into wins!
Congratulations to the WJ15 Quad, WJ15 double, WJ16 single, WJ16 double, WJ16 quad, WJ16 four and Women’s senior four for all winning their respective categories – a brilliant set of results to conclude a long and tough day of racing. A special mention must go to Year 11 rower, Jess Wiggs, who took home a pot in three events – the WJ16 single and four and women’s senior four. Not only did Jess win her three finals, but also didn’t come off of the water between them – racing three finals back to back!
A huge thank you also to the Friends of BGS Boat Club, who again kept everybody well fed and hydrated throughout the day – it was fantastic to hear the ‘BGS Roar’ back on the banks of the River Ouse.
Well done to all that worked hard to make this an excellent day of racing at BGS!
We now look forward to Henley Women’s Regatta, Henley Royal Regatta and Peterborough Junior Championships over the next few weeks to conclude our regatta season for 2023.
