Sixth Form Business and Economics

By Mrs Barber (Head of Business and Economics)

On Tuesday 4th July, the Lower Sixth Economists travelled to London to visit the London HQ of Bloomberg.  Before our tour we were able to spend time in the Bank of England museum learning about the history of money and experiencing how heavy a solid gold bar is (very!).

During our tour of the Bloomberg office we learnt how it is one of the most innovative and environmentally friendly office spaces in the world. We were lucky enough to get the opportunity to visit the Mithraic temple which is below the building. In the final part of the trip, we learnt what it was like to work for Bloomberg, the impact of AI and the history behind their QuickTake magazine.  Thank you so much to Damien Lonsdale for making the trip possible.

Faith Adeyemi-Abere (Lower Sixth) said: “During my visit to the financial software company, Bloomberg, I learnt the essence of why creating a firm with sustainability at its core facilitates people to be their most authentic selves, making it an incredibly stimulating experience. From the underground Roman temple museum, to the inspiring talks from various speakers, this was definitely a trip to remember, and I’m extremely grateful to have had this opportunity!”

Manal Husain (Lower Sixth) added “The Bloomberg trip was extremely exciting and different, everything from the architecture to the diversity of education among the employees was so much cooler than I imagined. Although it was an economics trip, I feel as if the company accommodated many more subjects, including classics, art and sustainability. I especially enjoyed the friendliness of everyone there, it was sort of like going on a vacation but with school!”
