Whole School Speech and Drama

By Ms Smith (Speech and Drama Coordinator)

On Thursday 21st March, over 50 Speech and Drama students performed in a Celebration Concert in the evening, which was hosted by six Lower Sixth students who have attended lessons since Junior School.

All students involved opened the event with a tableau that explored how, as part of their Speech and Drama lessons, the students have the opportunity to be Bold, Imaginative, and Reflective.

The event, held on World Poetry Day, included solo, duet, and group poetry performances entered in the Bedfordshire Festival of Music, Speech, and Drama from both Junior and Senior School students. Additionally, the event allowed students who have individual or duet lessons to preview their acting scenes to an audience prior to the LAMDA examinations, which took place on Friday 22nd March.

We had trophies and shields awarded to participants at the Festival on display, but the focus of the event was about celebrating students’ individual Speech and Drama journey from Junior School through to Sixth Form.

Our Lower Sixth hosts, Kaila Hill, Francesca Isherwood, Serena Jacob, Molly Lincoln, Akshaya Subeegaran and Harriet Whitbread, did a fantastic job introducing each section, performing their own pieces, and creating a finale which included their memories from, for some, over a decade of lessons.

It was a joy to see Kaila’s Speech and Drama book which contained every piece she performed since Year 3. We would like to thank all those involved for their performance passion and for instilling a lovely sense of pride in Miss Burns (Speech and Drama Teacher) and myself.
