Before half-term we travelled to London to visit the Imperial War Museum, and had great fun.
Once we had arrived, our teachers gave us booklets and for the rest of the day we enjoyed looking around the many exhibits and answering the questions in the booklets. Our personal favourite was the Family in World War II exhibit which showed many aspects of family life, and there was an Anderson Shelter which you could go into and listen to real people’s stories.
We saw many other things that helped us to visualise life in a certain time. One of the things we saw was a very large, famous painting called Gassed by John Singer Sargent, which was supposed to recall the terrors of gas attacks for soldiers. The sombre painting helped us realise how harsh soldiers' lives were in the World War I.
At the very end we saw one of the real pieces of the Berlin Wall which collapsed to join East and West Germany together. It was very interesting.
We think that this trip really reinforced our knowledge on recent wars and it was good to have a visual insight into real life artefacts and exhibits. The museum helped us see things from a different perspective, and not only was it educational but it was a truly memorable trip.
