Senior School Music

Tuesday night was Rock Night at the Quarry Theatre in collaboration with Bedford School. The event showcased some of BGS's talented singers and rock instrumentalists in an evening of live music.

The night began with the Funk Band performing Grease Is the Word, featuring Ellie Rhind (Upper Sixth) on trumpet and Mel Rasool (Upper Sixth) on vocals. Following them, Lower Sixth band Bea to the Moon delivered a polished performance of The Perfect Pair.

A variety of performances followed, with musicians moving between vocals, keys, guitar, bass and drums, sometimes even within the same set. The level of skill and versatility on display was impressive.

Polly Martin (Lower Sixth) and former BGS pupil Ava performed two duets, Ex’s & Oh’s and The Climb, receiving a warm response from the audience.

Two standout performances of the night came from the Upper Sixth bands, Counteract and Astrophe. Both groups performed at Rock Night and Open Mic Night and have been involved in many aspects of BGS’s musical life. Their contributions to school concerts, assemblies and ensembles such as the Senior Orchestra, Bel Canto and Senior Strings, along with roles in December’s Les Misérables, reflect their commitment to music.

Counteract, featuring Polly Taylor, Lauren Blower, Mel Rasool, Ella Bowis and Tireni Salako, performed Everybody Talks, High and Dry, and Locked Out of Heaven. Then, closing out the BGS performances, Astrophe, comprising Martha Ibbott, Kaila Hill, Tilly Crankshaw, Mel Rasool and Maia Vethenbourt, had both the seated audience and the mosh pit engaged with Disciple, You Give Love a Bad Name, and Livin’ On A Prayer.

It was a memorable evening, with students showcasing their musical talent and enthusiasm in front of a supportive audience.
