Year 9 made their annual visit to Castleton in Derbyshire for two days of Geography fieldwork on Monday (26th September).
Driving through Sheffield, the girls saw at first hand the way in which the city has been regenerated, and were amazed at how quickly they got from the lively university area into the Peak District National Park.
First stop was Ladybower Reservoir, where the girls learnt about the Derwent Valley and the way in which the dam was used to prepare the British in their attack on the German dams in World War II.
The girls then made their way towards Castleton before an invigorating walk around Mam Tor, to gain an understanding of the limestone scenery and the beautiful Hope Valley. The weather, whilst a little wet, did not stop the girls making observations, and they all enjoyed the walk through the spectacular Winnats Pass before heading to the youth hostel at Losehill Hall.
After supper the girls worked well, filling in their iBooks or completing sketches. You can see photographs on our Twitter page @BGS_Geography. Do please follow!
Tuesday was another packed day, visiting Treak Cliff Cavern to see Limestone features above and below the ground, and conducting a river survey, where active participation was required. Lottie’s boots took in rather a lot of water!
All girls enjoyed the chance to experience new skills, make new friends and bring back plenty of information to use for the two assessments
