Girls Swim Miles for Charity

Whole School House

By Mr Hertout, Head of Franklin

On Saturday the six Bedford Girls' School Houses joined forces again for our annual charity swimathon.

57 girls, divided into 14 teams, spent most of the afternoon going up and down the length of Bedford School's swimming pool.

Parks’ second team proved the strongest on the day, covering a record-breaking 130 lengths in just 50 minutes. The total distance covered by all 57 swimmers exceeded 20 miles, the equivalent of the Channel crossing from Dover to Calais!

Money is still being collected at the time you are reading this article but we will be well in excess of £1,800, the highest amount ever raised for this event. Proceedings will be equally shared between CHUMS, the school charity, and the MS Centre in Bedford, the charity chosen by the organisers.

Many congratulations to all participants and warmest thanks to all the parents who came to support their daughters.
