In December 2016, Upper Sixth student Bethan Leadbeater began work on a piece of choreography, which she had developed from poetry. She worked with dancers to explore the inherent themes and images within the written word devising a powerful piece of dance movement. This stunning work was recognised by Young Creatives, a project run in conjunction with The Royal Opera House and Rambert Dance.
Bethan was chosen as a choreographer to represent The East Region. She then embarked on a series of intensive weekends of practical workshops, discussions and performance opportunities exploring her ideas with industry professionals
On Sunday 9th April 2017, Bethan presented her choreography at Rambert Dance School on London's South Bank. Six Young Creatives from The United Kingdom including Bethan, showcased their work in the presence of Richard Alston, a choreographer who is internationally recognised as one of the most inspiring and influential choreographers in dance.
Mrs Winter, Head of Dance, said: “It was a pleasure for me to be a part of the audience to witness first hand Bethan's outstanding achievement. I was so proud to see Bethan's work being recognised and showcased on such a prestigious platform”.
