Lacrosse Teams suffer from the elements

The weather has played havoc with the flagship national schools tournaments held this month.  The Beast from the East meant that the U13, U14 and U15 tournaments were cancelled.

The 1st team played brilliantly on day one of their rearranged tournament at Wycombe Abbey.  Playing as a cohesive team with each player producing some of their best lacrosse of the season BGS finished the day with wins against Westonbirt, St Bart’s and Peter Symonds, qualifying to play in the 1st Division for the following day. Unfortunately with heavy rain falling over night the grass pitches turned to mud and were deemed unplayable, and a disappointed set of girls returned back to school for Monday afternoon lessons!

Fortunately, closer to home we managed to squeeze in the U12, U13 and U14 County Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire tournaments in the space of 6 days, with BGS Cople pitches standing firm and ending up as the venue for all three tournaments.

In the U12A tournament on Saturday 10th March, the A team finished 4th with some moments of brilliance during the day that they just could not manage to sustain for longer periods. The U12B team were unbeaten in their B team tournament and were absolutely outstanding. They won all their matches in their group and went on to beat St George’s 6-0 in the final, having not conceded a goal all day!  A special mention should go to the B team Goal Keeper, Harriet Gates. Although she was not kept particularly busy by the opposition, Harriet made some vital saves when it counted to keep a clean sheet. The B team midfield players, Mya Lakan, Faith Adeyemi- Abere and Ella Jemmet- Gabrys, were unstoppable! The U12 C team finished 3rd in their C team tournament showing great determination with wins against St Albans and Berkhamsted.  The MVP (most valuable player) award in this team was given to goalkeeper Alex Gentry for her inspirational saves.

In the U13 Beds and Herts Tournament on Wednesday 15th March, the U13A team finished third after defeating Haberdashers. BGS continued to improve and play stronger as the tournament progressed, and the MVP was awarded to Kierra Saloma who made some great saves throughout the day. The U13 B and C teams both played in the B team tournament. BGS C’s were the only C team in the competition and played their socks off to finish 7th with Captain Tess Garrett named MVP.  The B team finished the pool round with a determined win against Haberdasher’s, propelling them into an exciting 3rd/4th place match, with BGS emerging victorious!

In the last County tournament of the season the U14A team played well to finish joint 3rd with some lovely well worked goals from the midfield and attacking unit.  Fifi Devile was named MVP with her stalwart defensive play. The U14B team finished 2nd in their tournament losing to Berkhamsted in the final 3 – 0, but played brilliant lacrosse throughout. MVP went to Jessica Wallace for scoring some superb individual goals and my MVT (most valuable team) award goes to this team for the most improved team performance of the season.
