We are delighted to announce that BGS lacrosse coach, Mrs Greenwood, has been selected to represent British Lacrosse at The World Games 2022 (7th-17th July 2022) in Birmingham, USA. This is an outstanding achievement as only 12 women are selected to represent Team GB lacrosse at the championships.
Held every four years, The World Games represents the pinnacle of competition for 3,600 of the world’s best athletes in 30+ unique, multi-disciplinary sports. This will be the second time that lacrosse has been featured, with the United States women claiming the 2017 title. Mrs Greenwood will be competing against Australia, Canada, the Czech Republic, Israel, Japan and the United States.
Mrs Greenwood, who currently plays as a Goalkeeper, has also represented Florida Southern College in Division 2, where she played for three years, and captained for two. She received national recognition in America, in 2013 and 2014 as the Division 2 Goalie of the Year and named as an IWLCA 1st Team All American. After a 5-year hiatus Mrs Greenwood joined the England lacrosse team in 2017 and was a part of the 2019 Gold Medal European Championship Team. She continues to train for this summer’s World Cup in Maryland, USA (29th June – 9th July) before heading to the World Games.
Mrs Greenwood reflected on her selection: “I am beyond excited to be named as one of the 12 members travelling to Alabama this summer to represent Great Britain. I didn’t think the Olympic format would be something I’d enjoy but it has quickly become my favourite. It is even faster paced than the current 10-a-side version played in schools and will be the progression of the sport to future Olympics. I am so honoured to be a part of the future of lacrosse and help shape its path for athletes after me.”
