Mrs Mason-McLeod (Director of Sport)
After a break of more than two years, our talented lacrosse players were super excited to be competing at the prestigious National Schools Lacrosse Tournament (19th-22nd March).
The annual tournament, which has been running for almost 80 years, took place at the Aldershot Garrison Sports Centre and saw over 3,000 girls playing for almost 200 teams in eight divisions across three age groups!
BGS’ U19A, U19B, U15A, U14 and U13 lacrosse teams put in fantastic performances; the U19A team played so well in the championships and lost in the knockout stage to a very strong Berkhamsted side. This placed them in the top 16 schools in the country, which is a fantastic achievement. The U19B team reached the semi-finals of Division 2, losing on golden goal to the eventual winners!
The U15As finished second in their group taking them into the top 16 teams in the country. Despite the fight in the next round, the day ended there after a loss to St Swithun's who beat BGS 6-0. With such a positive performance they will most certainly fit well into the seniors next year for their next lacrosse adventure.
The U14s were undefeated in the group stages qualifying for the Championship final 16. In the knockout stages they lost 5-4 in a closely contested match against Berkhamsted.
The U13s played some excellent lacrosse throughout the day but were faced with a very tough group. They reached the Division 1 semi-final where they had an extremely competitive game against St Albans High School, losing by just one goal.
