Mrs Howe (Director of Drama and Dance)

Our Sixth Form students were treated to a challenging and inspiring practitioner day on Friday 7th September when Gecko Theatre Company came to teach them about their visual and physically visceral approach to creating Drama.

Students explored the heightened expression of emotion through the body and the vital use of the breath, which defines Gecko’s work. The workshop laid the perfect foundation for Gecko’s latest show Missing at the Battersea Arts Centre that students then saw that evening.

Lower Sixth student, Holly Sanders commented: “The workshop helped us to express emotions more physically and was very therapeutic. This set us up for Gecko’s production of the Missing about a woman whose memories of her parents’ break-up had a huge influence on her own relationships. The narrative was told mainly through movement so was very accessible to a range of people; meeting Gecko’s aim of making theatre that is universal and open to all. It pushed us to think about using more than just our facial expressions or voice to convey a message and how effective physical imagery can be.”
