Last weekend (Saturday 15th – Sunday 16th September), budding triathlon stars Bronwyn Tagg (Upper Sixth and Gabriela Woodroffe-Gomez (Year 8) competed in the British Triathlon U20s Festival at Mallory Park, Leicestershire. The event is the pinnacle of the season for triathlete’s aged 11-19 years and has become a key milestone in the development of future triathlon stars.

Bronwyn said: “The U20s festival presented a challenging bike course of U turns, tight 90 degree corners and chicanes, only made worse by the strong winds. However, my swim was solid enough to place me in the pack for most of the cycle, helping me save my energy for the run. Unusually, I had a storming run and even managed to gain a few places back, finishing in a solid 28th place. It was a great last individual race to end an enjoyable season, in which I can safely say I’ve continuously improved. I look forward to the tough winter training and deciding what to target next.”

Gabriela said: “On Sunday, I travelled to Mallory Park to compete for the Eastern Region in the Inter Regional Triathlon Championships. I competed in the U20 mixed relays, which consisted of teams of four (two girls and two boys) each completing a mini triathlon. It was a fantastic experience as it was the first time I had competed as part of a team and not just individually. I was quite nervous since I was the first competitor in my team but I really enjoyed it. It was quite tricky to get going in the 150m swim as the water temperature was only 15.3ºC! The hard training over the summer paid off as the Eastern Region came fifth overall and it was a great day.”
