On Monday 3rd February, our Years 8 to 10 students had the fantastic opportunity to watch Primera Cita, a Spanish language play performed by the Onatti Theatre Company. The play, full of humour and relatable moments, follows the story of a teenager nervously preparing for their first date, leading to plenty of misunderstandings and comic situations along the way!
Performed entirely in Spanish, Primera Cita was a brilliant way for students to engage with the language in a fun and immersive setting. The actors used expressive gestures, clear pronunciation, and interactive moments to ensure that all students could follow along and enjoy the experience. It was wonderful to see our students laughing, reacting and recognising vocabulary and phrases they have learned in lessons.
Live performances like this are a fantastic way to bring Spanish to life beyond the classroom, boosting students’ confidence and listening skills.
Alena (Year 9) said: “It was very interactive and humorous, because of the way they asked for the audience's opinion, thoughts and feelings. It really expanded my range of communication skills. This play also made me realise how much Spanish I actually understand when someone is speaking it.”
Jemima (Year 9) added: “I liked when the characters were asking for opinions from the audience as it engaged the audience! I think it helped with my understanding of Spanish as I became more aware and understanding of the accent and language. It also helped me with my sentence building and widened my understanding of vocabulary.”
