Many congratulations to future triathlon star, Gabriela Woodroffe-Gomez (Year 8) who placed second in the Hever Castle Triathlon last Sunday (23rd September)

Due to extremely cold weather conditions, the swim leg of triathlon was cancelled and replaced with an extra run leg of 1.8 km in addition to the 4 km cycle and a second run leg of another 1.8 km. 106 girls took place in the U12 race.

The course was extremely muddy making the downhill sections of the bike course very treacherous. Gabriela slipped off the bike on one of the steep uphill sections but despite this mishap she still managed to finish second place in a time of 39 minutes and 45 seconds.

Gabriela said: “Hever Castle is one of my favourite races due to its challenging course. I was quite glad when they cancelled the swimming leg as we saw many of the adults struggling in the very cold water in the morning races. I felt very strong on the run and really enjoyed the muddy conditions. I was delighted to make the podium.”
