BGS pupils and staff celebrated a plethora of sporting success at the annual Bedford Sports Awards on Monday evening. The awards ceremony has been a key date in the local sporting calendar in the last 23 year’s; attracting more than 90 nominations across 10 categories.

BGS sporting stars were nominated in the following categories:

Adult Sports Personality of the Year - Mr Castro, Triathlon (Head of Swimming).

We are delighted to announce that Maddie Axford won a ‘Special Commended’ award for her dedication and achievements in her hockey career. She currently trains and plays for both the BGS and Bedford Hockey Club Ladies first teams.

The Bedford Hockey Club Girls’ Under 16s won the coveted Team of the Year Award. They are the most successful junior team in the club’s history after winning the Tier 2 Midlands Area finals competition in April this year.

Mr Mason-Mcleod (Head of Hockey) adds: “This is a massive achievement for the Bedford Hockey Club U16’s to be voted Team of the Year. The BGS girls present train extremely hard for club and school and both benefit from this hard work. Bedford Hockey Club’s junior set-up is really starting to develop and starting to challenge the top hockey clubs in the country.”

BGS has also been awarded a Highly Commended accolade for sporting achievements in the Independent Schools Parent Awards 2018. The school was shortlisted in a very competitive category and the award reflects success in both the depth and breadth of our sports programmes.
