We are incredibly proud of Mr Castro, our Head of Swimming, for his outstanding accomplishments at the 2024 World Triathlon Championships held in Torremolinos, Andalucía, on Saturday 19th and Sunday 20th October.
Competing in the highly competitive 35-39 Age Group Standard Distance Triathlon, Mr Castro claimed a silver medal in the individual race. The next day he claimed a bronze medal as part of the Team GB V mixed relay team, which sees each member of the team complete a mini triathlon of 250m swim, 6km bike and 1,500m run before tagging in the next member. With these wins, Mr Castro's elite triathlon medal count reaches an impressive 17, including eight gold medals, a testament to his dedication and skill in the sport.
Mr Castro reflected: “It’s been a busy year finding time to train around my expanding family, and I was really pleased to claim a silver medal in the individual event. The mixed team relay was a new experience for me and great fun, although very intense to race in! I’m looking forward to some time off training this winter and then planning some goals for next year, including hopefully getting back on top of the podium!”
