Sixth Form Careers

The ever-popular Lunchbox Lectures returned for the Spring Term last week, kicking off with a presentation about careers accountancy on Tuesday 22nd January.

Daisy Culver, who is a Marketing Executive at the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW), presented the interactive session. Daisy spoke about different ways in entering this area of the business world whether it be through university or an apprenticeship.

Claudia-Jade Wilkinson (Lower Sixth) said: “The Lunchbox lecture was incredibly helpful as it showed us that university is not the only way forward but it also reassured us that you could enter accountancy through various subject choices.”

Daisy thoroughly enjoyed the engaging session, she said: “It was a pleasure to come and present to the students at Bedford Girls’ School. With genuine interest from students regarding their future careers – it was great to be able to share the possibilities a career as an ICAEW Chartered Accountant can offer. All the students were engaged and offered some fantastic questions.”

The following day we welcomed Dame Alice High School alumna, Hannah Shires (2001) and Amanda Stopp from Ringway Jacobs, who are a leading highways service provider working with local authorities across the UK.

Georgia Staroscik (Upper Sixth), said: “It was very eye opening to see the wide range of job roles, from designing new pedestrian crossings to scheduling site work at the most convenient and least disrupted times. The Lunchbox lectures are also are a great way of creating contacts, I have been given the opportunity of doing work experience with Ringway Jacobs, which is really exciting.”
