Mr Jeffryes (Mathematics Teacher)

BGS once again produced brilliant results in the recent Intermediate Maths Challenge (IMC), which is run by the UK Mathematics Trust and supported by the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries. It is aimed at those in Years 9 and 10 and is sat in school.

Over 200,000 pupils across the UK sat the Intermediate Challenge with the top 7% receiving a gold, 13% receiving a silver and 20% bronze. In Year 9, three pupils received silver and eight bronze. In Year 10, Rachel Gibb received a gold, with a further seven students receiving silver and 10 bronze.

Approximately, 8500 of the top students (less than 5%) are invited to a follow on competition, the Intermediate Olympiad or Kangaroo. Emily Polhill (Year 9) qualified for the Kangaroo and achieved a certificate of qualification just missing out on a merit by one mark. 89 marks out of 135 is still a super achievement for a maths challenge of this level of difficulty.
