It was another successful weekend of triathlon for rising star Bronwyn Tagg (Upper Sixth) and double World Age Group Champion, Mr Castro (Head of Swimming).

On Saturday 18th May, Bronwyn competed in the Nottingham Sprint Triathlon, which involved a 750m open water swim, 20km cycling and 5km Run. She raced against her own age group but also with the senior athletes, where she competed against up and coming triathletes.

Bronwyn said: “Nottingham sprint triathlon was my first triathlon of the season and the aim was to race for myself, with no pressure on my shoulders. The water was a chilly 15 degrees, I managed to be first out the water out in the wave of 107 women. The bike was windy but I put in one of my strongest performances. My run was slower than I hoped, but consistent with where I am at the moment, so I’m happy with it.

“Overall, I managed to cross the line in 10th place and came 3rd in my age group (15-19). It was a great race and I’m looking forward to the British Championships in Nottingham and ITU sprint distance qualifiers in Cardiff, later in June.”

On Sunday 19th May, Mr Castro also competed in the elite group of the Outlaw Half Nottingham Triathlon. While the water (just over 15°c) and weather was a touch chilly early on, overall conditions were close to perfect for fast times. With very little wind, mild temperatures and no rain until the final hour or so of racing, it was a good day for great performances.

Mr Castro said: “I competed in a 1.2 mile swim, 56mile cycle and 13.1 mile run against an elite field with pro triathletes and Olympians. I was first out of the lake and 2nd back from the ride, I got over taken by another athlete in the last mile for the run and managed to place 3rd in my first middle distance event.”
