Mrs Howe (Director of Drama and Dance)
Last Saturday saw a small company of Year 8 girls performing an abridged version of As You Like It in the Quarry Theatre gardens as part of the inaugural Shakespeare in the Garden festival.
The girls performed alongside companies from Bedford School and Goldington Academy, who presented Henry V and A Midsummer Night’s Dream. A packed and enthusiastic audience enjoyed each of the fun and creative performances and it was a wonderful opportunity for the young actors to explore the vibrant storytelling of Shakespeare in a welcoming and non-competitive environment.
The event aimed to foster a love of Shakespeare and a deeper understanding of his continued relevance to today. This was further supported by each company undertaking a fantastic workshop with professional actors from the Royal Shakespeare Company tailored specifically to each company, which our girls relished and found hugely rewarding.
Well done to everyone who took part but a personal thank you to our company of 8 who not only performed with energy and skill but who demonstrated they were a true ensemble through their kindness and encouragement of each other; acting as excellent role models for the school.
