Mrs McPhail (Geography Teacher)

Every year the Royal Geographic Society (RGS) holds the Young Geographer of The Year (YGOTY) competition.

The theme this year is ‘Where can Geography take You?’.  The geographers had to stick to a certain criteria, producing a poster in the Years 8-11 category and writing an essay in the Sixth Form category.

Geography plays a crucial role in understanding our world, and is a subject that's constantly adapting to change. It is dynamic and relevant, and provides people with a multitude of opportunities. Whether you've always wanted geography to take you to a particular place, to help you in a particular career or to help you understand one of the many challenges facing our world.

It is always fantastic to see girls entering competitions, giving them opportunities to be creative and to stretch themselves. The entries this year showed a variety of interpretations of the competition title.

In 2015, one of our Year 11 students received a Highly Commended award. This year we have our fingers crossed for more success. Well done to all those girls from Years 8 to the Lower Sixth who entered. We were delighted with their efforts and whilst the originals were sent off to RGS headquarters, the colour copies of each entry are on display in the Geography corridor.

So.........Where can Geography take YOU?
