Mr Castro (Head of Swimming)
On Sunday 13th October, six girls from across the school competed in the qualification round of the British Schools' Modern Biathlon Championship.
Held in Abingdon, the multi-discipline event involved a swim and run for all age groups, with the distances dependent on the competitor’s age. Girls gained points for how fast each of their disciplines. These points were then added together to make their final score.
In the U9 age group, Megan Barnicoat (Year 4) and Olivia James (Year 4) had to swim 25m and run 400m, Megan placed 5th and Olivia placed 7th. In the U12 age group, Jessica Parrish (Year 7) swam 50m and ran 800m; she had a great run and placed 5th overall.
The older age groups swam 100m and ran 1600m. In the U13 age group, Charlotte Brakenbury (Year 7) placed 7th. Finally, in U14 age group, Gabriela Woodroffe-Gomez (Year 9) and Isabel Jackson (Year 9) placed 5th and 7th respectively.
We will find out later next term if the girls have qualified for the National School Biathlon finals.
