The annual House Talent 2019 Finals didn’t fail to disappoint on Wednesday afternoon in the Assembly Hall. There were 75 acts from across the whole school, with 13 making it through to the final afternoon.

One of the highlights of the Bedford Girls’ School calendar, the event was kicked-off by our very own Girls’ Leadership Group, who choreographed a performance of the Spice Girls classic hit, Wannabe, with special guest Miss MacKenzie (Headmistress) impressively synchronising with the dance routine!

The six Houses then battled for the 2019 title, with each House having two or three individual performances including singing, dancing and musical performances. The atmosphere was electric, with students and staff clapping, and chanting in support of each performance.

Austen’s rendition of My Favourite Things from The Sound of Music was a real crowd pleaser, which claimed the best House song title.

Talented dancing sisters Ava (Year 6) and Áine Cunningham (Year 4) won the Junior category for Nightingale, with their energetic and expressive Irish dancing routine.

Sarah Pepper (Year 8) won the Senior School event for Nightingale; she performed a beautiful cover of I Dreamed a Dream from the musical Les Misérables.

Mrs Axford, Assistant Head, Co-Curriculum, adds: “Students from Years 3 to Upper Sixth auditioned for a place in the House Talent Finals performing in 75 different acts over. Audiences enthusiastically supported everyone’s efforts from dance to magic shows to stand-up comedy, and vocal and instrumental performances. For me it was so exciting to see some of the girls showcase their talent for the first time to their peers and to see them grow in confidence through the process.”
