On Wednesday 4th March, a group of Year 10 students attended the WE Day event at the SSE Arena in Wembley.

WE Day is an event that celebrates young people making a difference in their local and global communities. The day was packed full of motivational speakers, such as Idris Elba, who spoke about the impact of having one person believe in you – in his case his secondary school drama teacher.  Game of Thrones actress, Gwendoline Christie, spoke about not conforming to Hollywood norms as a 6’3’’ woman and Britain’s first deaf/blind medical student, Alexandra Adams, gave an empowering speech about the hurdles she overcame in her pursuit to become a medical doctor. There was also live music from Leona Lewis and Calum Scott.

Overall, the day was a great experience, which left the students and staff feeling inspired and motivated to make a difference in our community.

Read student reflections from the day below:

Rebecca Turner – “My highlight of the day was listening to the former female prime minister of New Zealand and the wife of the prime minister of Canada. They gave valuable advice on how to be a leader and also about being a female leader. This was very relevant with International Women’s Day being last Sunday. What I found inspiring was when children from different schools stood up on the huge stage and spoke to hundreds of people about what they did to either help the local community or help the wider world.”

Erin Rowe – “I found the whole trip inspirational and it opened my eyes to new projects that were going on, or just starting, that I had no idea about. All the presenters contributed so much to the whole experience and it was amazing seeing and hearing from celebrities like Idris Elba and Jamie Oliver. However, the presenter who stood out the most for me was Alexandra Adams who is a deaf blind medical student that has overcome so much in her life and has inspired so many young people like her to do whatever they like and to use their disabilities to their ability.”
