Miss Bruce (Director of Rowing)

On Friday 13th March, the boat club came together to celebrate rowing at BGS. It was an excellent evening of all rowing past and present.  The Friends of BGS Rowing Club (FBGRC) outdid themselves again with an under-the-sea theme, photo booths and floating bubble balloons. Parents, staff and alumnae joined the girls for a very memorable evening.

This year, we welcomed alumna, Olivia Pryer (2015), as our guest speaker. Olivia, who is currently a medical student and rower at the University of Oxford, spoke to the girls about her hard work and the determination that earned her a place in the famous Oxford v’s Cambridge boat race. Her overall message about how hard work really does pay off was inspiring to all.

The coaching team highlighted the successes of the year. The following awards were given to Years 9 to Upper Sixth:

Award Winners:

Erin Knight (Upper Sixth) received the Mick Deards trophy. This award was donated by Mrs Bruce in memory of the legendary Mick, and was given to Erin for her commitment to the boat club. Since Year 9, Erin has been a fantastic role model, displaying a commendable work ethic and great personality. Awarding her the Mick Deards trophy is the perfect way to recognise her time here at BGS.
