Sixth Form Community

Miss Dawson (Biology Teacher, CAS & Service Coordinator)

Following the launch of the Campaign Challenge in January, the Lower Sixth girls have been working in small groups to choose a social issue they feel passionate about and design a campaign to inspire and educate the BGS community about this issue. Before the half term break, each group invited Years 7 to Upper Sixth students and staff to complete a short survey to help them identify myths and misconceptions associated with their issue. Over four weeks, each group has been planning and carrying out events around school.

This is the second year this annual challenge has been held and once again, the range of topics is diverse, from wildfires to cancel culture.

The group representing skin conditions and their impact on self-esteem invited Liam Sidhu to speak to Year 10 and 11 this week about his experiences with severe eczema. This group felt skin conditions were often overlooked and can harm self-esteem, so are encouraging students to speak more openly.

The group representing deforestation have petitioned The Greens Kitchen to reduce their palm oil use where possible and to source products made using responsibly sourced palm oil, click here to view the article.

The group representing fast fashion have asked for students to bring in unwanted clothing to be donated to charity instead of being thrown away, and the group representing working poor are looking for donations of food and toiletries to be donated to Bedford Foodbank.

We look forward to seeing what other events will take place over the final week of the challenge.
