Building Models in Biology

Miss Pearl (Biology teacher)

Years 7 and 9 have recently been building models to represent ideas in Biology. Year 9 have been learning about the greenhouse effect and global warming. Over two remote lessons, students used resources they found at home to build a model either to show how the greenhouse effect works, or a consequence of global warming. Some amazingly creative models were made, such as Ava’s depiction of the effect of melting sea ice on polar bears (modelled with icing and water and filmed over several hours using time-lapse imaging). Megan and Scarlett showed how the greenhouse effect works with their creative models, and Jada neatly linked the greenhouse effect and its consequences together in her model, which shows the impact of burning fossil fuels.

Meanwhile, 7RAJ have been learning all about the human digestive system and enzymes, and have made some great videos to show us how to model what the small intestine does! The girls produced some extremely professional videos – Ava and Jaspreet show their slick video-editing skills and great presenting in their work.
