Last weekend, the Lower Sixth IB and A-level biologists travelled to the beautiful Flatford Mill, Suffolk for an Ecology Field Trip.
Jess Wathen reflected on the trip: “I really enjoyed the biology field trip. The trip was held in a beautiful countryside location, Flatford Mill. The site was full of greenery and included a small cafe. The location made collecting data for our investigations very enjoyable and extremely accessible.
“During our stay, we conducted multiple practical investigations, which really helped to extend and deepen my ecological knowledge. We also attended several lessons led by tutors. The tutors were extremely helpful and always willing to answer questions, explaining each topic clearly. This helped develop my knowledge and secure my understanding of the ecology topic.
“In addition to our lessons, we took a trip to a shingle beach to investigate succession. This practical was extremely enjoyable to carry out and allowed us to use and gain access to specialist equipment, which meant our practical investigations were developed in further detail. While our days were packed with biology, the tutors also allowed us to have breaks and relax, which really helped maintain focus throughout our lessons. Overall, the trip was really enjoyable and effective in extending and solidifying my ecological knowledge, preparing me to write a detailed report for my required A-Level practical.”
