Mrs Barber (Head of Business and Economics)

This Saturday students from Years 10 and the Upper Sixth will take part in a Model United Nations (MUN) conference being organised by the University of Cambridge. MUN is a co-curricular activity in which students learn about global issues and the role of the United Nations through discussing topics.  For this conference, they will be debating issues in the Human Resource Council and have been asked to prepare to discuss two topics:

  • The Question of the education of refugees and displaced peoples
  • The Question of regulating online discourse

To build their international awareness every student is allocated a country that they will represent and be a diplomat for.  The BGS girls have been allocated an interesting and diverse range of countries – Indonesia, Belgium, Sudan, Togo and Senegal.

This will be their first conference and, as well as researching their countries position on the two topics, they are also preparing themselves for the rules and procedures that are followed at a MUN conference. The attendees are Jemma Oldroyd from Year 10 and Sabira Egan, Karissa Singh, Aisha Njomo and Kyra Bampoe from the Upper Sixth.

While it is a great shame not to be attending the conference in person, we are delighted that the virtual event has been organised and are looking forward to the day.
