Mrs Allen (Careers Administrator)

The UCAS wheel doesn’t stop turning! Despite the closing date for university applications having only just passed for our current Upper Sixth, it is already time for the Lower Sixth to begin their UCAS and post-BGS planning. This began last week with a Virtual Higher Education Event for both students and parents.

Lower Sixth were taken off timetable for the afternoon on Wednesday 27th January to attend an afternoon of both live and recorded presentations. We were delighted to have the University of Birmingham, the University of Bath and Cambridge University join us live, with Newcastle University preparing a pre-recorded presentation for the year group. Mrs Whitlock (Head of Careers) introduced the afternoon’s events, explaining to students the importance of preparing now for their UCAS journey. The talks focused on a variety of areas; The UCAS Process, Writing A Strong Personal Statement, How to Choose The Right Course, Student Finance and the Oxbridge Process.

In the evening, parents were invited to attend a live presentation about the Oxbridge process as well as participate in a live Q&A with the Head of Careers and the Director of Sixth Form. Parents had been sent links to pre—recorded talks, kindly prepared by the universities in advance, so that they could get the most from the Q&A session in the evening. Over 40 families took part in the Q&A and we are delighted to hear that so many found the event helpful.

The Bridge Careers Department and the Sixth Form team are available to support students throughout their UCAS journey, from preparation and planning through to completion and final place selection. Noting deadlines to ensure these are met is key to ensuring decisions aren’t rushed and that there is enough time to work carefully through the process.

Links to the pre-recorded talks that took place in the evening are included below and parents are welcome to email The Bridge if they have any further questions regarding the UCAS the process.
