By Mrs Whitlock (Head of Careers)
Lower Sixth students and their parents immersed themselves in all things University at The Bridge Careers Service’s Higher Education afternoon and evening on Wednesday 14th February.
With speakers representing a range of universities from across the UK including the University of Birmingham, Nottingham Trent University, University of Sheffield, and Norwich University of the Arts, sessions included How to choose the right Course and University; Creative Careers; Applying to Medicine and Veterinary Science; and Aspiring to Oxbridge.
Students also had an introduction to the importance of Personal Statements in the UCAS application process, and how they can make theirs stand out to Admissions Tutors; whilst parents had an overview of how BGS manages the UCAS process, and a session on student finance. Mrs Woolley (Director of Sixth Form), Mrs Pearl (Oxbridge Coordinator) and I were on hand to meet with parents one-on-one and respond to various queries. Many parents were left well-informed and appreciative of the time they had with each university representative, as well as members of BGS.
We thank all of our guest speakers for being a part of our event, as this was an important time for both student and parent to explore the necessary tools needed to prepare and support for successful university applications.
We look forward to seeing the directions our Lower Sixth students will take in 2025!
